Supporting School Sports & Green Ghana Initiative
Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, president of Wassa Hemaa Foundation, donated 6 sets of jerseys and 6 footballs to Senior High Schools participating in the 2024 Inter-District Games at Huni Valley SHS. This follows an earlier ₵4,000 contribution toward organizing the event.
Her team presented the items on her behalf, receiving praise from school leaders for her dedication to youth development.
As part of the Green Ghana Day celebration in Bompieso, she also provided tree seedlings worth ₵2,000 and refreshments to support community participation.



Empowering Women & Youth: WHF Launches Skills Training Workshop in Prestea.
The Wassa Hemaa Foundation (WHF), in partnership with Prestea Sankofa Gold Ltd and Aseda Foundation, launched a one-week Skills Training Workshop for women and youth in Prestea and surrounding communities. Starting on 21st August 2023, the program aims to train 500 participants in Dressmaking, Hairdressing, Makeup Artistry, Beadwork, Pastry Making, Soap Making, Rabbit Keeping, and more. This initiative is designed to equip participants with practical skills for self-employment and income generation. During the opening ceremony, participants were urged to take the training seriously. It was also announced that support would be provided through MASLOC and WHF’s Obaapa Loan Scheme, along with opportunities through the Government's YouStart programme. Special thanks were extended to Prestea Sankofa Gold Ltd for funding the training materials and to Aseda Foundation for facilitating the sessions.

Wassa Hemaa Honors Veteran Farmer.
During the 40th Municipal Farmers’ Day celebration at Huni-Valley on November 8, 2024, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, through the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, awarded Madam Cecilia, the 2024 Veteran Female Farmer, with a Single Cabin Pick-Up to support her farming work.
This forms part of the "Veteran Female Farmer Award" scheme launched in 2021 to honor hardworking elderly women in agriculture. The 2024 edition marks the 4th consecutive year of this impactful initiative.
Additionally, the Foundation donated 50 pieces of African print cloth to all award recipients at the event.



Hon. Barbara Graces Enstoolment of New Tokunaso Chief with a Message of Progress.
Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Joins Apinto Divisional Council for Enstoolment Ceremony The NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Prestea-Huni Valley and Board Chairperson of the Minerals Commission, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, joined the chiefs and people of the Apinto Traditional Council on Sunday, 24th March 2024, for the enstoolment of Nana Kofi Awotwe as Chief (Odikro) of New Tokunaso. Hon. Oteng-Gyasi commended the traditional authorities for fostering peaceful co-existence between locals and mining firms, congratulated the newly enstooled chief, and pledged her support for community development. She also urged residents to vote for committed leaders and support her re-election. She donated assorted drinks, kente cloth, and GHS 5,000 in honour of the occasion. Additionally, on Saturday, 30th March, her representative, Hon. Okoh Barimah, donated GHS 2,000 during the enstoolment of Nana Ama Krumah I as Obaahemaa of Enyiman No. 2.


HON BARBARA OTENG-GYASI DONATES TO BOGOSO VOLLEYBALL TEAM.
On Friday, 6th October 2023, Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation and former MP for Prestea Huni-Valley, donated GHS 2,500 to the Bogoso-based Go Net It Volleyball Club. The support will help the team acquire jerseys and a volleyball ahead of the upcoming Western Regional Volleyball Competition. Presenting the donation on her behalf, Dr. Thywill Quarshie reaffirmed Hon. Oteng Gyasi’s commitment to sports development in the municipality, highlighting recent projects like the Aboso Astroturf, Huni-Valley Basketball Court, and other ongoing initiatives. The club, through Mr. Edward Acquah, expressed deep gratitude and wished Hon. Oteng Gyasi success in the 2024 elections. She was also represented by Mr. Nicholas Ofori Ackaah of the NPP communication team. The tournament begins in Bogoso on 21st October 2023, with Go Net It in Group A alongside Possible Youth and Young Spikes. Meanwhile, the Wassa Hemaa Cup—another sports initiative backed by the Foundation—also kicks off soon, with finals set to be played under floodlights at Aboso.


Wassa Hemaa Foundation Supports Eid Feast for Widows & Orphans in Prestea.
Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, donated GHC 3,000 to support a Special Eid feast for widows and orphans in the Muslim communities of Prestea. The donation, made in response to an official request from the Jammu Taawa Mosque, was presented by Alhaji Yussif Osman Amuda, the NPP Nasara Coordinator for Prestea-Huni Valley.
Receiving the donation ahead of the Eid celebration on Wednesday, 28th June 2023, Chief Imam Mohammed Abukari Awal (Mallam DK), District Chief Imam of Ahlu-Sunnah, expressed deep gratitude for Hon. Oteng Gyasi’s continued dedication to the Muslim community, praying for Allah’s blessings upon her.
This gesture follows her earlier support during Ramadan, where she donated assorted food items and cash to various Muslim communities in the municipality.


Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Funds Electrification of Achiase M/A Basic School
On 13th June 2023, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, donated GHS 10,000 for the electrification of Achiase M/A Basic School. This donation, based on a request from the school’s Headteacher, Mr. Anthony Appoh-Eshun, will connect the school to the National Grid, improving teaching and learning conditions. Mr. Lawrence Appiah Takyi, the Prestea Huni Valley NPP Constituency Secretary, emphasized that the electrification will raise the standard of education in the area. Mr. Appoh-Eshun expressed gratitude, highlighting the positive impact on ICT teaching and overall education quality. Dignitaries present included Francis Cudjoe (Assembly Member), Francis Abeiku Yankah (Constituency Organizer), Mrs. Victoria Bimpe (Constituency Treasurer), and others.




Hon. Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Commissions Prestea Ankobra Water Project
On Thursday, 13th April 2023, the people of Ankobra, a suburb of Prestea in the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality, celebrated the official commissioning of a mechanized borehole with an overhead polythank and modern treatment plant to provide potable water. This initiative, championed by Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, was a response to the community’s long-standing difficulty in accessing safe drinking water. The treatment plant, installed at a cost of GHS 20,000, is part of a larger effort that saw 21 boreholes constructed across the municipality during her tenure as legislator. In her address, Hon. Oteng-Gyasi emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure the facility’s sustainability for future generations. Nana Odobeng Appiah, the Chief of Prestea Ankobra, expressed profound gratitude, stating, "You have given us life, because as the adage goes, 'Water is Life.'" He thanked Hon. Oteng-Gyasi for providing the community with a reliable source of clean water, which will positively impact their health and well-being. The project, initiated on 26th September 2022, aims to provide youth with a space to develop both their athletic and personal skills. Mr. Kofi Oteng Bawuah, founder of Coach K Charity, emphasized that the court would help nurture youth talent while instilling core values like hard work, team spirit, and discipline. Hon. Oteng-Gyasi highlighted that the project aligns with the government’s vision of enhancing sports facilities nationwide, including Astroturf football fields and youth development centers. She urged the community to maintain the facility for future generations. The President of the Ghana National Basketball Association and the Vice President of the Ghana National Volleyball Association also attended, promising to hold regular training clinics for the youth. Nana Kwabena Amponsah IV, Divisional Chief of Bosomtwe, praised Hon. Oteng-Gyasi for her ongoing developmental efforts and encouraged students to focus on their education to contribute to national growth.

On Monday, 29th January 2023, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, officially commissioned a newly built Multi-Purpose Court in Huni Valley, Prestea Huni Valley Municipality. The court, which caters to both volleyball and basketball, was a joint effort funded by Wassa Hemaa Foundation and Coach K Basketball Charity for Children, at a cost of GHS 100,000. The project, initiated on 26th September 2022, aims to provide youth with a space to develop both their athletic and personal skills. Mr. Kofi Oteng Bawuah, founder of Coach K Charity, emphasized that the court would help nurture youth talent while instilling core values like hard work, team spirit, and discipline. Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Honoured for Transforming Healthcare in Prestea-Huni Valley
On August 8, 2023, the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Health Directorate, led by Mr. Timothy K. Ofori, recognized Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi for her significant contributions to healthcare in the municipality. The event, held in Bogoso, highlighted her efforts in spearheading key health projects, including the construction of the Prestea Children's Block, the Bogoso Government Hospital, and the expansion of the Huni Valley and Aboso Health Centres. She was also lauded for providing medical equipment and supporting individuals in need. As a token of appreciation, the Municipal Health Director presented her with a commemorative plaque. In return, Hon. Oteng-Gyasi reaffirmed her commitment to furthering healthcare development and revealed her efforts to secure two additional ambulances for emergency services.

Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, through the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, once again showed her support for youth development by donating 10 sets of jerseys, 10 leather footballs, and a cash amount towards the second edition of the Wassa Hemaa Cup.
The tournament, launched in her honor last year by the youth of Prestea Huni-Valley, aims to nurture football talent and promote unity. The 2024 edition kicked off with 32 teams, narrowing down to 16 finalists from four zones. The final showdown will be held at the Aboso AstroTurf later this month.
Organizers expressed their gratitude and pledged to deliver a competitive and disciplined tournament that fosters sportsmanship and community spirit.

Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Donates to Prestea Asompa Baptist Church
On Sunday, 14th May 2023, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, donated food items to the Prestea Asompa Baptist Church to support a special Mother’s Day event for selected women in Prestea. The donation, presented on her behalf by NPP Deputy Organizer Kofi Andoh-Kyei, included 50 bags of 5kg rice and 96 bottles of 1-litre cooking oil.
Reverend Francis Mensah Afful, Head Pastor of the church, expressed gratitude for the donation and praised Hon. Oteng-Gyasi for her consistent support to both Muslim and Christian communities in the municipality.
Hon. Oteng-Gyasi is known for her ongoing efforts to uplift the vulnerable in the Prestea/Huni-Valley area, including initiatives like small loan schemes for businesses, donations to widows, providing disability-friendly equipment, covering tuition fees for needy students, and hosting the annual Children’s Christmas Party.


Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Supports Prestea Huni Valley Inter-Schools Gala Competition
To inspire the youth of Prestea Huni Valley to excel in sports, Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, President of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation, supported the Aboso and Awudua Circuit Inter-Schools Football Festival.
Cash donations were presented on her behalf by Ms. Evelyn Armoh, NPP Deputy Women Organizer, and Mrs. Victoria Bimpeh, Treasurer of Prestea Huni Valley Constituency, to the event organizers.
This gesture aligns with Hon. Oteng-Gyasi’s ongoing vision to encourage youth involvement in sports within the municipality. During her tenure, she successfully lobbied for the construction of two Astroturf football fields—one in Aboso (completed) and the other in Prestea (ongoing)—the first such initiative in the constituency’s history. Recently, she also extended support to the Aboso Reform Team for the National U-17 football competition and commissioned a multi-purpose basketball court in Huni Valley.
